Collard, also known as Josh Collard, was born and raised in South London, England. The upcoming 24-year old singer/rapper/songwriter was brought up in a strict Mormon household where music allowed him to leave his restrictive values, inspiring his vulnerable and self-reflective music. Known for his soulful, ethereal sound, along with his beautiful falsetto and lyrical sweetness, Collard began his music career in 2013 when he found his place at rap and R&B collective, Late Night In Paris. Members of the group reached out to him upon hearing his song covers on YouTube. During his time with the collective, he performed with them at the well-known Glastonbury Festival in England. Collard stayed with the Late Night In Paris collective for three years then ventured to LA with collective member Zach Nahome to nurture his own personal sound. In 2017, he then released his first single ‘Sofa’ which now has over 2 million plays on Spotify. In 2018, his single ‘Ode’ gained recognition on music platform Color x Studios where he performed a live version on YouTube. i-D praises Collard, stating that he “channels deep emotions, an old soul and an easy vulnerability that you can’t help but be moved by.”. He released his first debut album in 2019 titled ‘Unholy’, becoming a distinctive and innovative artist in the UK R&B scene.
