Cracker is the satirical alternative punk band fronted by prolific polymath frontman David Lowery, who has also led the band Camper Van Beethoven, with a similar vein. Cracker is comprised of David Lowery (vocals, guitar), Johnny Hickman (lead guitar, vocals), Bryan Howard (bass), Matt “Pistol” Stoessel (pedal steel guitar), and Carlton “Coco” Owens (drums). David Lovering of the band Pixies, Charlie Quintana of the band The Plugz, and Frank Funaro of the band The Ramones have all been drummers for Cracker.
David Lowery is much more than a musician; he’s also a mathematician, producer, and lecturer at the University of Georgia’s music business program. Cracker’s debut single, “Teen Angst (What the World Needs Now)” (1992) shot to #1 on the Billboard US Modern Rock charts. Cracker still tours today, but Lowery also manages Camper Van Beethoven in between his other projects.
