Dead Can Dance is an Australian-British music project formed in Melbourne, Australia in 1981 by Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard. The band formed in 1981 with the members Lisa Gerrard on vocals, Brendan Perry on vocals and guitar, Paul Erikson on bass guitar, and Simon Monroe on drums. In 1982 the band left Australia and moved to London, England, where they signed with the alternative rock label 4AD. In 1984 they released their debut studio album self-titled Dead Can Dance. That same year they released the four-track EP Garden of the Arcane Delights. The band has also released the albums Spleen and Ideal, Within the Realm of a Dying Sun, The Serpent’s Egg, Aion, Into the Labyrinth, Spiritchaser, Anastasis, and Dionysus. In total they have released 9 studio albums, 4 compilation albums, 2 EPs, and 2 live albums. The band’s early albums were not widely distributed until the 1990s, when 4AD made a distribution deal with Warner Bros. Records. The group disbanded in 1998 but came back together in 2005 for a world tour and eventually reformed in 2011.
