Dev Patel was born on April 23, 1990 in Harrow. Although most known for Slumdog Millionaire (2008) and Lion (2016), he started his career with his first role being on Skins. After skins, he starred in Slumdog Millionaire for which he received multiple awards and nominations for, including the British Independent Film Award, Chicago Film Critics Association Award, National Board of Review Award, Black Reel Award and the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Young Performer.
From there, Patel went on to play roles in The Last Airbender, The Commuter, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Road Within, the HBO series The Newsroom, and About Cheery with James Franco and Heather Graham. Patel played the character Saroo Brierley in Lion alongside Nicole Kidman and Rooney Mara. For that role Patel won the BAFTA award for Best Supporting Actor.
