Douglas Luiz Bio

Douglas Luiz Soares de Paulo (born on May 9, 1998 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is a Brazilian professional footballer, best known as a central midfielder for Premier League club Aston Villa and the Brazil national team.

Luiz made his first team debut on August 27, 2016 as a substitute against Tupi in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B Championship. He joined Manchester City from Vasco da Gama for €18 million in 2017 and went on loan to La Liga side Girona. He made an instant impact in Girona, starring in the 1-0 home win against Malaga. Again in 2018, Douglas Luiz had to go on loan to Girona again due to work permit issues.

Luiz made a return to Manchester City in 2019 before transferring to Aston Villa for €2.5 million. In October 2022, amidst rumored interest from Arsenal, Luiz signed a new "long-term" contract with Aston Villa after the transfer window had closed.

He was honored with the coveted honors of Supporter's Player of the Season and Player's Player of the Season at Aston Villa's season-ending celebration in May 2023. Luiz also won gold in the men's football final at the 2020 Summer Olympics, adding to his laurels.
