Academy Award-winning actress Ellen Burstyn, was born Edna Rae Gillooly on December 7th 1932 in Detroit, Michigan. Ellen first stepped onto the scene as a dancer on The Jackie Gleason Show using the name Erica Dean, and appeared on Broadway in Fair Game under the name Ellen McRae. Burstyn appeared in a string of projects including The Doctors and The Iron Horse, before she landed her breakthrough role in The Last Picture Show. Her performance scored her Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations, as did her performance in The Exorcist.
