Emancipator is an American producer and DJ. His real name is Douglas Appling and he was born on the 27th of May, 1987, in Virginia, U.S. He is a multi-instrumental artist who plays guitar, electric guitar, drums and bass, among other instruments. In 2006 he self recorded and self released his debut album “Soon It Will Be Cold Enough”, which caught the attention of Japanese record label Hydeout Productions, who signed him to re-release his debut album. He opened for Bonobo in 2009, and he pursued it with a tour in Japan. In 2010, he released his second album “Safe In The Steep Cliffs” and two years later he founded his own label, Loci Records, in which he released his third album “Dusk To Down”. He also founded a live band, the Emancipator Ensemble, which features keyboards, electric violins, acoustic drums and many other instruments. His fifth album “Baralku” has been highly praised among the musical critics.
