Ensiferum is a Finnish melodic folk metal band from Helnsinki, Finland. The band formed in 1995 and was founded by guitarist Markus Toivonen, bassist Sauli Savolainen and drummer Kimmo Miettinen. Savolainen and Miettinen left the band in 1998 and were replaced by bassist Jukka-Pekka Miettinen and drummer Oliver Fokin. By 2001, the band released their debut album, ‘Ensiferum’ along with the addition of keyboard player, Meiju Enho and vocalist Jari Mäenpää. It was not until 2004 that the band released their second album titled ‘Iron’. After the release of ‘Iron’ vocalist Mäenpää left the band to pursue a place with band Wintersun and was replaced by Petri Lindroos for their first tour. Ensiferum recorded their third album, ‘Victory Songs’, in 2007 and in the same year, replaced keyboardist Enho with Emmi Silvennoinen. By 2009, the band performed at a series of festivals such as Finnish Metal Expo and Tuska Open Air in Finland, Legacy and Rock am Härtsfeldsee in Germany and Frostrock in Belgium amongst many others. With increasing popularity from their live performances, Ensiferum released their fourth studio album by the end of the 2009 titled ‘From Afar’ followed by a fifth album in 2012 titled ‘Unsung Heroes’. In 2014, the band signed with Metal Blade and released ‘One Man Army’ in 2015 followed by their most recent body of work ‘Two Paths’ in 2017. Ensiferum has been touring globally to perform for their big fanbases in Australia and across Europe.
