Erol Alkan Bio

DJ Erol Alkan was born on May 30, 1974 in London. He began DJing in 1993 around London indie clubs. He became the resident DJ at Plastic People’s “Going Underground” night. After expanding and moving, Alkan reopened the club and renamed it Trash in 1997. Over ten years, many acts performed at the club including the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and LCD Soundsystem. Trash closed in 2007.

Beginning in 2001, Alkan focused his DJ career outside of Trash, and he became the resident DJ for the Bugged Out techno party. In 2003, he was named “Best Breakthrough DJ” by “Muzik.” In 2006, he was named “DJ of the Year” by “Mixmag.” Alkan was also named “Data Transmissions’ DJ of the Year” in 2008 and 2009. He is also noted as one of the founders of the “mash-up” craze, including a mash-up of “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” by Kylie Minogue and “Blue Monday” by New Order, which was performed by Minogue at the Brit Awards. He has remixed many artists including The Chemical Brothers, Bloc Party, Daft Punk, Scissor Sisters, MGMT, Eurythmics, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. He has also produced albums by The Long Blondes, Mystery Jets, Klaxons, Franz Ferdinand, Late of the Pier, Whitey, Kindness, and Daniel Avery.
