Fally Ipupa Bio

Fallu Ipupa (December 14, 1977), born Ipupa Nsimba, is a singer, songwriter and guitarist. Born in Kinshasa, Congo, where he spent his early years up to his adult life, Fallu began his musical journey by playing on the Congolese streets with various small groups. His guitar expertise gained the attention of Koffi Olomide, founder of famous band Quartier Latin International and asked Fallu to join the group. He produced Koffi’s greatest hits, ‘Eternellement’ and ‘Ko Ko Ko Ko’ which turned Fallu into the group’s band composer. He was a part of Quartier Latin International for seven years from 1999 to 2006, where he decided to go solo and released his first album titled ‘Driot Chemin’ which sold over 100,000 copies. His Congolese roots influenced his soukous, R&B and pop sound that attracted many listeners both in Africa and globally. In 2007, Fallu won Best Artist or Group in Central Africa at the Kora Awards. He then went to release his second album, ‘Arsenal de Belles Melodies’ in 2009. Following this second release, Fallu was awarded several titles from the MTV Africa Music Awards (MTVAMA) in 2010; Best Francophone Artist, Best Video for ‘Sexy Dance’ and Best African Artist. He was also nominated as the Best Live Act for the MTV African Music Awards in 2014 along with nominations for MTV Europe Music Awards 2011, BET Awards 2011. Amongst many other awards, Fallu’s talent landed him 3 Ndule awards in the Soundcity Music Video Awards (SMVA) such as Best Video, Best Song and Best Album and Best Artist in Central Africa. Fallu has over a million followers on YouTube with a smashing 61 million on his music video for ‘Eloko Oyo’ off his 2017 album, ‘Tookoos’. The 42 year-old is currently signed with Universal Music and released his latest album in 2018 titled ‘Control’.
