Frankie Edgar Bio

Frankie Edgar was born on October 16th, 1981 in Toms River, New Jersey. He began his combat career as a wrestler in high school, later qualifying for Nationals at Clarion University of Pennsylvania. His first UFC appearance and win occurred at UFC 67 against undefeated fighter Tyson Griffin, after a 5-0 record outside the UFC that relied heavily on his wrestling ability. He then went on to defeat Mark Bocek by TKO and Spencer Fisher in 2007. Edgar’s first loss occurred in 2008 against Gray Maynard, though he later defeated Hermes Franca and former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk that year.

In 2010 Edgar earned the UFC Lightweight Championship after defeating BJ Penn by unanimous decision, and repeated the performance by defeating Penn for the second time later that year. After losing the championship belt to Benson Henderson in 2012, Edgar moved to the featherweight division, losing to Jose Aldo in 2013. He has since defeated Cub Swanson, former champion Urijah Faber, Chad Mendes, and Jeremy Stephens. Most recently he has defeated Yair Rodriguez in 2017, and pulled out from a November 2017 fight against Max Holloway due to injury.
