Grant-Lee Phillips Bio

Grant-Lee Phillips is an American singer and songwriter who was born on September 1, 1963, in Stockton, California. He first picked up a guitar as a teenager. He later left Stockton and moved to Los Angeles, where he attended the California Institute of the Arts in Santa Clarita, and while studying there, he reacquainted with Jeffrey Clark and decided to form a band. They started with a group called the TomBoys but didn’t get far. Then they founded Shiva Burlesque and released two albums before they broke up in 1990. He later began playing solo as Grant Lee Buffalo, and he recruited bassist Paul Kimble and drummer Joey Peters. Grant Lee Buffalo became the name of a band, and they released their debut album in 1993, which was titled “Fuzzy”. They released three more albums, 1994 “Mighty Joe Moon”, 1996 “Copperopolis” and 1998 “Jubilee”. Grant Lee Buffalo disbanded in 1999. In 2000, he released “Ladies’ Love Oracle” solo, an album that was followed by “Mobilize” in 2001. He released “Virginia Creeper” in 2004, “Little Moon” in 2009, “Walking in the Green Corn” in 2012, ”The Narrows” in 2016, “Widdershins” in 2018, and “Lightning Show Us Your Stuff” in 2020.
