Heather Small (January 20, 1965) is an English singer and was the lead singer for the 90’s band, M People. Born and raised in West London, Heather joined her first music group called Hot House when she was a teenager. While singing with the Hot House, Heather was brought into contact with DJ Mike Pickering and Paul Heard, leading to the conception of M People. She sang their worldwide hits such as ‘Moving on Up’, ‘Search for the Hero’ and ‘One Night In Heaven’ selling over 10 million albums globally. In 1998, she made her departure from M People and began to release solo music. The Mike Pickering 55-year old released her first solo album, ‘Proud’, in 2000 composed of pop, R&B & rock sounds. She is best known for her single ‘Proud’ from her debut album and became the theme song for several TV shows such as the final season of Queer as Folk, the Oprah Winfrey Show and The Biggest Loser amongst many others. ‘Proud’ was also used as the theme song for many events, such as the Tsunami Relief Concert in the UK, England’s victorious win in the Rugby World Cup in 2003 and for the London win for the Olympic bid in 2012. Long after her first album, Heather released her second solo album in 2006 titled ‘Close to a Miracle’ and toured the UK from 2008-2009. Heather is also active in many charities such as the Aiden Cox Foundation, St Luke’s Midnight Walk and “BeatBullying”.
