Isabelle Huppert Bio

Isabelle Anne Madeleine Huppert is an actress born in Paris, France, on March 16, 1953. She is an alumna of Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales (INALCO) and Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique (CNSAD). She appeared in several theater plays, including Ivan Turgenev's A Month in the Country and Euripides' Medea.


Isabelle made her movie debut in the 1971 film Le Prussien as Elisabeth. She played Pomme in Claude Goretta's The Lacemaker in 1977. The role earned her the BAFTA Award for Most Promising Newcomer. Her role in Elle (2016) earned her a Golden Globe Award, an Independent Spirit Award, and a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress.


Isabelle has had the most films in the official competition of the Cannes Film Festival. She is one of only four actresses to have won the Best Interpretation Award twice, winning it for Violette (1978) and The Piano Teacher (2001). Isabelle appeared in French, English, German, Italian, and Korean-language productions. She recorded an album, Madame Deshoulières, with Jean-Louis Murat.
