Jacob “Jake” Arrieta was born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 6, 1986. He is a pitcher for the Chicago Cubs of Major League Baseball.
The Cincinnati Reds chose him in the 2004 draft. He played for the Texas Christian University’s Horned Frogs. He won the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Year Award. He joined the U.S. team in the World University Baseball Championship in Cuba in 2006, and the team won. He also appeared at the 2008 Olympics to represent the US team.
He signed with the Baltimore Orioles in 2007. His main league appearance happened in 2010 in the game against the New York Yankees. He then joined the Chicago Cubs in 2013. He won the National League Cy Young Award in 2015.
