Joaquín Sabina Bio

Joaquín Ramón Martínez Sabina (popularly known as Joaquín Sabina) was a Spanish singer and songwriter who was born on February 12, 1949 in Úbeda, Jaén, Andalucía, Spain. Sabina was writing poems and connecting music when he was just fourteen for the teenage band Merry Youngs.

His debut album for CBS was Malas Compañias. Sabina left CBS in 1985 and joined Ariola. He recorded the live record Joaquín Sabina y Viceversa while performing at the Salamanca Theater on February 14th and 15th 1986. Hotel, Dulce Hotel was released in 1987 and it sold over 400,000 copies. Sabina was later recognised as the Best Spanish Rock and Pop Songwriter by the Spanish Songwriters Association (SGAE) in 1997. He released Nos Sobran los Motivos three years later. In 2002 Dímelo en la Calle was released and Alivio de Luto in 2005. In 2009 Sabina was honoured with the Golden medal of the city of Madrid before he teamed up with Serrat for the release of 2012’s La Orquesta del Titanic.

In 2017 he released the live offering 500 Noches para una Crisis: En Directo, his final album for Sony. Later the same year his hometown Úbeda bestowed him with a Favourite Son Medal.
