Ken Burns Bio

Kenneth Lauren Burns, better known as Ken Burns, is an American filmmaker, director, producer, and cinematographer best known for his work in historical and biographical productions. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, United States, on July 29, 1953. Ken studied film studies and design at Hampshire College, and five years after graduating, he worked on his first major project, the documentary Brooklyn Bridge which received an Oscar nomination. Ken has since worked as a filmmaker, director, producer, and cinematographer on numerous projects including Baseball, Country Music, The Central Park Five, and The Civil War which featured David McCullough, Sam Waterston, Morgan Freeman, and Julie Harris. Ken has won multiple awards including four Primetime Emmy Awards, three American Film Festival Awards, and a Grammy Award.
