Lloyd Cole Bio

Lloyd Cole is a British singer and songwriter who gained notoriety as the frontman of the 1980’s band the Commotions. He was born in 1961 in Buxton, England, and formed the Commotions in 1982. The band was active until 1987 when Cole moved to the United States. There he recruited drummer Fred Maher, guitarist Robert Quine on guitar, and Matthew Sweet for his 1990 eponymous debut. After a number of albums with modest commercial success, in 2001 Cole released “The Negatives” in collaboration with Adam Schlesinger from Fountains of Wayne and Jill Sobule. After some more solo albums in the early 2000s, Cole started focusing on Electronic music, starting with “Selected Studies, Vol.1” in 2013, in collaboration with Hans-Joachim Roedelius. Two years later, the artist started releasing compilation albums for his work on the Commotions and some early solo work, spawning the “Collected Recordings” series. In 2019 he released the full-length album “Guesswork”.
