Michelle Williams, born Tenitra Michelle Williams (July 23, 1979) is an American singer and actress. A Rockford, Illinois native, Williams is best known as a member of the best-selling R&B girl group Destiny’s Child. Along with her work with Destiny’s Child, Michelle went on to produce her first solo album titled ‘Heart To Yours’ in 2002 which became the best selling gospel release that year. Her second album, ‘Do You Know’ was released in 2004 and received a nomination for ‘Best Gospel Act’ in 2004 at the MOBO Awards. Williams’ music career was predominantly spent with Destiny’s Child but the group disbanded in 2006 leading her to pursue a solo career. Williams’ solo career debuted successfully and continued on with her next album release in 2014 titled ‘Journey to Freedom’. The groovy gospel album was nominated for Outstanding Gospel Album at the NAACP Image Awards in the same year along with her single ‘Say Yes’ which was nominated for a Soul Train Award. Williams also found success in Broadway shows as an actress starring in musicals such as The Color Purple, Chicago, Fela and What My Husband Doesn’t Know. Throughout her career, Williams has received seven Grammy nominations with Destiny’s Child and has won one for Best R&B Performance By A Duo or Group with Vocal for their track, ‘Survivor’.
