Miguel Jontel Pimentel (October 23, 1985), better known simply as Miguel, is a Grammy winning American R&B singer native to Los Angeles, California. The musician is of Mexican African American descent which influenced his R&B sound. In 2004, Miguel was signed to Black Ice, only releasing his single, ‘Getcha Hands Up’ in 2006. Miguel moved over to Jive Records, releasing his first album in 2010, ‘All I Want Is You’ containing popular singles such as ‘Sure Thing’ and ‘All I Want Is You’. Miguel displayed his vocal talent on this album, landing him a spot as a supporting act touring with Trey Songz and Usher. The album did not receive chart recognition until 2011, reaching number 37 on the Billboard 200 for 45 weeks. Miguel went on to RCA Records after the closing of Jive, recording his second album, ‘Kaleidoscope Dream’ in 2012. The album debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 at number 3 and received a Grammy nomination in the same year. The album’s lead single, ‘Adorn’, won the Grammy for the Best R&B Song. Before the release of his third album, ‘Wildheart’, Miguel spent his time collaborating with artists such as Mariah Carey for the platinum song, ‘#Beautiful’, J. Cole for the Grammy nominated single ‘Power Trip’ and Mac Miller for the platinum song ‘Weekend’ amongst many other collaborations. ‘Wildheart’ was released in 2015 which was nominated for a Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album similar to his latest album, ‘War & Leisure’, also Grammy nominated for the same award. The album’s single ‘Skywalker’ has 318.2 million plays on Spotify. Miguel still continues to work on solo work and collaborations at the age of 34 and has garnered 11 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
