Misty Copeland is an American ballet dancer for the American Ballet Theater, one of the biggest ballet companies in the United States. In 2015, she became the first African-American woman to be made principal dancer in the history of the American Ballet Theater. Although she didn’t start ballet until age 13, Copeland was immediately hailed as a prodigy and started receiving professional offers at age 15. Time magazine named her one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World” in 2015. Copeland has also written two autobiographies and narrated a documentary about her life called A Ballerina’s Tale.
