Negramaro is an Italian band formed in 2000 in Copertino, Lecce, Puglia, Italy. The founding members of the six-man band include Andrea De Rocco, Andrea Mariano, Danilo Tasco, Emanuele Spedicato, Ermanno Carlà and Giuliano Sangiorgi. The band’s name was taken from a local grape wine negro amara meaning bitter black.
The group debuted with the hit track Mentre tutto scorre in the Sanremo’s Festival of young artists. The track featured as the title track for La febbre, the movie featuring Fabio Volo. The band initially found success with their 2003 song Come Sempre which was taken from their Negramaro album. It was chosen by Italian national television as the soundtrack for its 50th-anniversary advertisement.
The band won the 2005 Best Newcomer award in Festivalbar with Estate, a single. The single skyrocketed the group to the top of the Italian charts and eventually landed the Best Italian Band in the MTV Music Awards. Negramaro played in the San Siro in 2008 and became the first Italian band to do so; the concert set was titled San Siro Live.
