Raphaël Varane Bio

Raphael Varane is a French professional footballer born in Lille, France on April 25, 1993. He is currently a centre-back for the Spanish club Real Madrid and the France national team. He started his junior career playing for the local club in his hometown AS Hellemmes. He played with Hellemmes from 2000 to 2002. In 2002 he started playing with the professional club RC Lens on their youth team. He played with the youth team until 2010 when he became a senior player for Lens. In 2011 he started playing for the Spanish club Real Madrid where he currently plays. Varane started playing for the French national team on the under 18 team in 2012. He moved up to the under 20 team in 2012 and also played for the under 21 team from 2011 to 2012. In 2013 he started playing with the senior national team. As a senior he played his first game for France on March 22, 2013 in a qualifier for the World Cup against Georgia. He played in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2018 World Cup for France.
