Joining the label as an A & R scout in 1991, Russell quickly rose through the ranks, showcasing his keen eye for talent and innovative approach to music production. In 1992, he made waves with the release of "The Bouncer," a seminal single produced alongside his duo Kicks Like a Mule, marking the beginning of his influential career. Over the years, Russell's astute leadership and creative vision propelled XL Recordings to new heights, earning him the position of chairman and half-owner by 2007. Under his guidance, the label became synonymous with groundbreaking releases by acclaimed artists such as MIA, cementing its status as a powerhouse in the music industry.
