Ryan O’Connell is an American writer who was born on September 2, 1986, in California. While growing up, Ryan loved reading TV scripts and studied shows patiently to learn more about writing. He loved to analyze plays and identify the A-plot and the B-plot.
Later, he took a job as an editor of Thought Catalog. He also doubled as a blogger at that time, contributing to top news agencies like The New York Times and Medium.
Between 2015 and 2017, he wrote two pieces focusing on his cerebral palsy disability: the first a column for Thought Catalog (Coming Out of the Disabled Closet) and the other a book. A couple of years later, he returned to script writing when he took a job with MTV’s Awkward and relocated to Los Angeles.
While in LA, he wrote a memoir: I’m special and the seven lies we tell ourselves, which earned him a contract from stage13 to write the script for Netflix movie Special based on his memoir. In addition to that milestone, Ryan’s career is well decorated with accolades and awards, including but not limited to HRC Visibility Award, Queerty’s Pride 50 and others.
