Ryūichi Sakamoto is a Japanese musician, composer, producer, writer and actor. He was born on the 17th of January, 1951, in Tokyo, Japan. He began his career in 1978 as the keyboardist and occasional vocalist of the experimental rock band Yellow Magic Orchestra. The band was an international success and they continued playing together for over 30 years. Sakamoto was also focused on his solo projects and he released his debut solo album “Thousand Knives of Ryūichi Sakamoto” where he experimented with electronic music and traditional Japanese music. In 1980, he released the acclaimed album “B-2 Unit” often credited as one of his bests. It is considered an early precursor of the techno wave. He is a very prolific artist and he has released over 30 albums during his career, and many collaborations with artists like Robin Scott, The Kakutougi Session and Keizo Inoue. He has also composed music for several movies such as 1987’s “The Last Emperor” for which he won a Grammy, an Oscar and a Golden Globe.
