Mendes started playing the piano at a young age and became a professional musician in the early 1960s. is widely recognized for his distinctive blend of bossa nova, Latin jazz, and disco music, which has earned him multiple Grammy Awards and international acclaim. He gained global recognition with his band, Brasil '66, in the mid-1960s, with hits like Mas Que Nada and The Look of Love.
