Born on 27th September 1991, Simona Halep is a professional tennis player. She started playing at the ITF Junior Circuit in 2005. A former junior World No.1, she became the only woman since Steffi Graf to win six WTA titles in a single calendar year. She won two grand slam singles titles including the 2018 French Open and the 2019 Wimbledon Championships. Prior to this, she shot to fame after finishing runner up to Serena Williams at the 2014 WTA Finals. She beat the tennis superstar in 2019 to win the title. For this feat, she was awarded the WTA Most Popular Player of the Year Award in 2014 and 2015. She was also named the WTA Fan Favorite Singles Player in 2017, 2018 and 2019. She has received the Patriarchal Cross of Romania and the Order of the Star of Romania. She has also been named an honorary citizen of Bucharest.
