World renowned DJ and music producer Skrillex was born Sonny John Moore on January 15, 1988, in Los Angeles, California. Moore attended a private academy for the arts in Los Angeles, yet he dropped out when he was 16, and from there began to check out the local electronic music scene. He later became the lead singer of the Georgia band From First to Last, and in 2004 through Epitaph Records, they released their album Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Body Count, which was followed by the album Heroine in 2006. Shortly after, Moore left the band in pursuit of a solo career. After touring with Monster in the Machine and Strata, Moore had the opportunity to go on the second annual AP Tour along with names such as All Time Low, Forever the Sickest Kids, The Rocket Summer, and others in 2008. The next year, he released Gypsyhook EP, was featured as the opening act in Europe for Chiodos, and appeared at Bamboozle in California.
He adopted the name Skrillex in 2008, and two years later released an EP under his new name, appropriately entitled My Name is Skrillex. He later toured with Deadmau5, and would go on to release Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites in 2010, More Monsters and Sprites and Bangarang in 2011, Make It Bun Dem After Hours in 2012, Leaving in 2013, and Recess in 2014.
