Steely Dan is an American rock band formed in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York in 1972. The band was started by Walter Becker and Donald Fagen while attending Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. Their sound is a fusion of rock, R&B, jazz, and traditional pop. They were signed to ABC Records as recording artists and in 1972 released their debut studio album titled Can’t Buy a Thrill and have since released the albums Countdown to Ecstasy, Pretzel Logic, Katy Lied, The Royal Scam, Aja, Gaucho, Two Against Nature, and Everything Must Go. They have also released 10 compilation albums and two live albums. The band has sold over 40 million albums worldwide. All of their studio albums and four of their compilation albums have charted on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. In 2001 they won two Grammy Awards for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for their album Two Against Nature, and another Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. In 2005 their album Aja was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
