The Jam Bio

The Jam was a very influential British punk and mod pioneer band founded by Paul Weller (vocals, guitar), Rick Buckler (drums), and Bruce Foxton (bass, vocals) in 1972, in Woking, England. After making an impression in the emerging London punk scene, the group signed with Polydor Records for their debut album “In The City”, which saw its eponymous single rise to the U.K.’s Top 40 chart. The second full-length album “This Is The Modern World” prompted a United States tour and again reached the Top 40 chart in the 22nd spot. The subsequent 1978 album “All Mod Cons” solidified the “mod” aesthetic in their fans and reached the #1 UK’s Top Ten with the single “Eton Rifles”. Although the band had already toured the United States in the ‘70s with popular bands like Blue Öyster Cult, success there had to wait for two consecutive albums, “Setting Sons” and “Sound Affects”. In the ’80s the band would consummate their high-profile status with singles “Town Called Malice” and “Just Who Is the 5 O'Clock Hero”. The Jam disbanded in 1982 after a farewell tour and the release of a compilation album.
