The McCoury brothers are formed of Ronnie McCoury, who plays the mandolin, and his brother Rob, who plays the banjo. They were brought up with the influence of the bluegrass music tradition. The brothers built a group that could take what they had in their DNA, take the traditions they had learned, and move the music ahead by having fiddler Jason Carter, bassist Alan Bartram, and their most recent member, guitarist Cody Kilby, play in it. The band achieved the distinction of being the only band in the history of bluegrass music to have every member receive at least one award from the International Bluegrass Music Association for their respective instrument. Moreover, both the Allman's Wanee Festival and guitarist Warren Haynes' Christmas Jam, which is an annual holiday homecoming of Southern music, were among the events that the band played.
