Vanessa Estelle Williams, also known as Vanessa A. Williams, is an American actress, producer, and director best known for her work in film and television. She was born in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York City, New York, United States, on May 12, 1963. Vanessa began her acting career in 1989 when she appeared in the TV series Dream Street, but she became a household name in 1992 when she was cast in the horror film Candyman which also featured Virginia Madsen, Xander Berkeley, Kasi Lemmons, and Tony Todd. She has since had recurring roles in the TV series Days of Our Lives, The L Word: Generation Q, The Bay, Famous in Love, Soul Food, Murder One, and Melrose Place, and her filmography includes Drop Squad, Our America, Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay, Welcome to the Christmas Family Reunion, and Raising Izzie.
