Vanessa Williams is an American actress and singer who rose to prominence as the first African American woman to win the Miss America pageant in 1984. She pursued a singing career and released a string of hits including, ‘The Right Stuff,’ ‘Dreamin’,’ ‘Save the Best for Last,’ and ‘Colors of the Wind,’ which won an Oscar Award for Best Original Song (Pocahontas), and topped the Billboard Hot 100. Williams appeared as an actress in many television movies and series including, Bye Bye Birdie (1995), Soul Food (1997), LA Doctors (1999), Boomtown (2003), South Beach (2006), Mama Mirabelle’s Home Movies (2007-2008), Ugly Betty (2006-2010), Desperate Housewives (2010-2012), 666 Park Avenue (2012-2013), and The Good Wife (2015).‘ Williams has been nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards for her work in Ugly Betty.
