Michael Caine Bio
Michael Caine was born on March 14, 1933 in London, England. At the age of 20, he landed his first role performing walk-on parts on stage shows. He was Peter O’Toole’s understudy for The Long and the Short and the Tall and took over the role for four months. He had a small film role in A Hill in Korea (1956), followed by bit parts on television. A big break for Caine came when he was cast in the play Next Time I’ll Sing to You in 1963. He had a role in Zulu in 1963 and used his distinctive voice to land more parts in movies throughout the 1960s.
He worked on The Italian Job and Battle of Britain in 1969, with both roles earning him praise. Throughout the 1980s, he averaged two films a year, including Educating Rita (1983), which earned him a BAFTA, Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), which earned him an Oscar, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988), which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. Caine also had successful roles in California Suite, Dressed to Kill, and Escape to Victory. In 1999, he earned another Academy Award for The Cider House Rules. He also joined the cast of Batman Begins as Alfred Pennyworth and appeared in the sequels.
