Eddie Levert Bio
Eddie Levert is an American singer, songwriter, and actor born in Bessemer, Alabama on June 16, 1942. He is best known as the lead vocalist of the R&B group, The O’Jays. Levert started singing as a kid in his church choir and by the time he was a teenager he was singing in school plays and would regularly perform on a gospel radio show. In high school, he formed the singing group Triumphs with several of his friends. The group would perform locally around Canton, Ohio. The group traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio to perform for the president of King Records and were signed to the label after changing their name to The Mascots. The group eventually changed their name to what they are commonly known as, The O’Jays. Together they released 29 studio albums, 20 compilation albums, 1 live album, and over 90 singles. In 2004 they were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and in 2005 they were inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Their songs “Love Train” and “For The Love of Money” were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
