Fernando Alonso is a Spanish racing driver and Formula One racing driver born in Oviedo, Asturias, Spain on July 29, 1981. Alonso is a two-time Formula One World Champion and has contested 17 seasons of Formula One. He is considered to be one of the best Formula One drivers of all time. He started racing karts at 3 years old and in 1996 became the world Karting champion. In 2001 he made his Formula One debut with Minardi. In 2005 and 2006 he was crowned Formula One World Drivers’ Champion. Alonso was the youngest Formula One World Drivers’ Champion at 24 years old and when he won the next year he was the youngest double champion of all time. He held the record for most career championship points from 2013 to 2015. Outside of Formula One, he won the 2018 24 Hours of le Mans on his first attempt and also won the 2019 24 Hours of Daytona. In 2017 he contested at the 2017 Indianapolis 500 and was going to contest in 2019 but wasn’t able to qualify. Alonso is a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF.
