Jesse Williams Bio

Jesse Williams is an American model, actor, director and producer. He was born Jesse Wesley Williams, on the 5th of August, 1981, in Chicago, Illinois, U.S. Before he entered the entertainment industry, Williams was a teacher of African and African American History in low income area schools. He started his acting career under the direction of Edward Albee in the play “The Sandbox”. Later on, he started appearing in television series. He got further recognition when he portrayed medical resident Jackson Avery in the popular ABC television series “Grey’s Anatomy” starring Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey. In 2013, he got to play in Lee Daniel’s box office hit “The Butler” as a civil rights activist. He also has credits in the movies “The Cabin in the Woods”, “Brooklyn’s Finest” and “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2”. Williams is also an activist and in 2012, he established his own production company farWord Inc. His company produced “Question Bridge: Black Males”, a mixed media art project which aims to redefine Black male identity and representation in America. The project was officially selected at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival New Frontiers.
