Teyana Meshay Jacqueli Shumpert (December 10, 1990), better known for her stage name Teyana Taylor is an American R&B singer-songwriter, actress choreographer and dancer. Her career began in 2006, where she choreographed the music video for Beyonce’s ‘Ring The Alarm’. Although her dancing skills were recognized, Teyana wanted to pursue her own music releasing her first track in 2007 titled ‘Google Me’ which was produced by Jazze Pha. The single was part of her debut mixtape under Pharrell William’s Star Trak Entertainment titled ‘From A Planet Called Harlem’. As she became more and more recognized in the music industry, Teyana Taylor was asked to contribute vocals to Kanye West’s Grammy-winning album, ‘Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’. In 2012, Teyana moved on as an independent artist from Star Trak releasing her second mixtape, ‘The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor’ along with collaborations with artists such as ‘Make Your Move’ featuring Wale and ‘D.U.I.’ featuring Jadakiss and Fabolous. Still connected to Kanye, by the end of the year Teyena signed to his record label GOOD Music and The Island Def Jam Music Group. Through GOOD Music, she released her debut studio album in 2014, ‘VII’ which debuted at number 19 on the Billboard 200. The album features Chris Brown, Fabolous, Yo Gotti and Pusha T. It was not until her most recent album, ‘K.T.S.E’ that Teyana gained a massive online following. With the support of Kanye’s production on ‘K.T.S.E’, the album produced all her massive hits such as ‘Gonna Love Me’ with 69.5 million plays on Spotify along with ‘Rose in Harlem’ and ‘Issues/Hold On’ featuring Kanye West. Teyana now has over 3 million monthly listeners and has worked on singles with Kehlani, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Rick Ross and Kyle.
